A Good Start but Falls Short

In this book the authors have attempted to provide a methodology for developing an Enterprise Business Architecture (EBA). But the book falls short in its ignorance of industry standard modeling notations such as BPMN and UML--thus making the methodology difficult to apply with any of today's modeling tools--and sites very simplistic examples.

The one pearl contained in this book is the focus on business objects (informational and tangible) being exchanged between business processes as a way of understanding dependencies in the architecture.

In my opinion, the content lacks the breadth and depth I would expect to see in a book describing something as significant as a methodology for developing a Business Architecture.

Enterprise Business Architecture: The Formal Link Between Strategy and Results
This book is similar to the The Power of Business Process but is more focused on the actual process improvement initiatives, I/T architecture, the value model, strategic allingment analysis and so on. This book helped me understand that before we can put all of our process steps together, we have to think differently - strategically, or a collaborative approach that adds a new dimention of our current ways of thinking. I would reccomend this book to a person that was entering the process architect role for a better understanding of what Enterprise Architecture is.

Not bad.

Maunder's text may not be the "best" book on algebraic topology, but I still recommend this one to those who find other more advanced texts like Spanier rather inaccessible. Warning: the chapter on cohomology and duality is not very well-organaized (compared to other chapters), so you may want to consult Bredon's book instead.

Shouldn't be your first text in algebraic topology.

It is a decent book in algebraic topology, as a reference. At first, I found this textbook rather hard to read. Too many lemmas, theorems, etceteras. Three suggestions:
1. Needs more pictures, especially for the simplicial homology Chapter.
2. CW complexes should be covered before duality and not after.
3. Needs more examples and exercises.
Overall, the book is very good, if you have already some experience in Algebraic Topology. I found that the Croom's book "Basic concepts of Algebraic Topology" is an excellent first textbook. Too bad it is out of print, since it is very popular, every time I get it from the library, someone else recalls it. The combination of these two books probably is the right thing to have: Maunder's book picks up where Croom has left you.

About the Author

Jerry Sittser is Professor and Chair of Theology at Whitworth University. He holds a master of divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary and a doctorate in the history of Christianity from the University of Chicago. He is the author of several books, including A Grace Disguised and The Will of God as a Way of Life. Married to Patricia, he is the father of three children and two step-children, all grown.

A book to be read over and over

I discovered this book 10 years ago after the death of my older sister. I thought I stumbled across this book by accident at a bookstore, but I know now that it was no accident. I am reading this book for the third time and it will never be put away on a shelf. It has new meaning and insight each time I read it over again. This little book is a gift from God.

Highly recommended for those going through traumatic loss.

If you have experienced a sudden loss, do yourself a favor and buy this book so you can make notes and underline passages. I keep this as a reference book. A friend who's daughter died in an auto accident gave it to me when we suddenly lost our son. It's written by a seminary professor, but it is a journey through his own loss of his wife, mother and child in car accident. You won't find cliches, "how to's" or "steps to healing". It helped me because I identified with his loss and grief and encouraged me because he slowly but surely walked through it, discovering that it is possible to feel joy and pain at the same time.

Our daughter was recently killed in a motorcycle accident. A friend recommended this book to me. I found it very helpful-especially the insight that we all suffer individually in various ways that shouldn't be compared.

I, too, am finding the most surprising thing is how I have such sorrow, and at the same time, so much joy...I know it is because of Jesus. I've been a Christian for over 30 years. I'm not surprised that He gives grace and comfort, but I do marvel at the extent of it.

At the end, Jerry's comments about choosing to leave a good heritage was a challenge to me. I want to choose well, and have my part in God's larger "story" lived out in a way that glorifies the Savior....

This series was a spin off of the Drake Sisters which I absolutely loved. This series has become to dark for my tastes. Reading is my escape after handling the issues from my daily life and I prefer something lighter. The scenes with the kids being molested was too much for me. This book was a bridge for a new series that I will not be reading. That aside the main characters were glossed over and not developed. The hero is controlling and the heroine is passive. However the author has been consistent with her writing style and I've decided it's not for me.

Jackson and Elle are back!

I have been following the Sea Haven novels (and loving them) since 2005 and there are three ways to look at this book:
1 - the conclusion to Elle and Jackson's story from Hidden Currents
2 - the conclusion to the Sisters of the Heart series
3 - the intro to the Torpedo Ink series

Unfortunately, the story does all three and basically glances over all three topics but mainly focuses on the Torpedo Ink.

This story does bring back all of the Drake sisters and their husbands which is both good (Jackson gets closure) and bad (Tyson would NEVER allow Libby to be put in danger). All of the Sisters of the Heart are back with their husbands, also. With all of the existing characters from Sea Haven (7 Drakes plus their husbands, 5 elements plus their husbands, Airiana's rescued kids, and Blythe) and the mind boggling addition of 17 new and unheard of characters (Torpedo Ink), Viktor (the last Prakenskii brother), and some new rescued kids make for a confusing read.

We've known since RIkki's wedding (Water Bound) that Blythe was married to a Prakenskii but this book had little time for Blythe and Viktor to work on their relationship. I did enjoy the fact that Jackson and Elle finally have closure and Hannah torturing Jonas. I do look forward to the new series. Despite the vast cast, Christine Feehan does write a good story. If you don't have a great memory, I would suggest having a flow chart in front of you for reference as to who the characters are and how they are related. Overall, it is a good wrap up for the current Sea Haven residents and worth the time to read.

Not enough famliy closure for the Prakenskii brothers themselves. Feel cheated by the way this series was concluded.

I have read all of Christine Feehan's book/ series and I love her stories but to be honest I feel cheated by the way this series ended. This book
did not have enough closure between the Prakenskii brothers. Everyone comes together but this book does not spend enough time bonding or bringing the brothers back together. Even when you find out that all the messages Viktor left for the family for 5 years were removed for spite by someone there is no family explanations. But he wants and expects his blood brothers to treat his club brothers as family. I was very disappointed for that reason. There was enough twists and turns for two books and maybe when the new series begins she could have used some of it as a lead in and just finished the Prakenskii and Drake series in this book.

It should be fun if everyone is brought together in the future books of the new series to see how they all grow together. This book was not as deep as the rest of this series because there was too much going on at one time to close this series and open a new one. Loved the series but feel cheated by the way this was ended.
