Chili rating helps candidates gauge the estimated difficulty level of a given problem. A single chili indicates that the estimated difficulty level of a given problem is "mild" (500 to 590 difficulty level), two chilies spell "hot" (600 to 690 difficulty level), and three chilies signal "very hot" (700 or above difficulty level). By practicing with problems of varying levels of difficulty, candidates will learn to maintain discipline when solving easy but tricky problems and also to exercise flexibility when tackling harder problems. These latter problems require that a test-taker choose the best approach and look for time-saving shortcuts.

The best bang for your buck in the GMAT textbook industry

Finally! A GMAT textbook that breaks through the noise and focuses on the most commonly-tested question types that students will face on test day. When I founded my company Dominate the GMAT, I was looking for a quality textbook that I could provide my students as part of their course that would offer a great source of practice problems and complement my instructional videos in a value-added way. I looked at literally dozens of different books in the industry, but nothing was quite right. Until I found Brandon's book.

There's much to like about this book, but three things in particular stand out to me. First, I like how Brandon groups problems together in "buckets." This makes it super easy to practice particular skills and hammer away at them until they're mastered. For example, if you're currently learning "triangles," there's a whole block of questions grouped together specifically about triangles. Same for Distance-Rate problems, mixtures, probability questions, etc. This is perfect for my course, where I can assign blocks of problems to be completed immediately after watching the instructional videos on corresponding topics, but it's also useful for the student who is trying to study on his/her own. Second, the buckets of problems are arranged in increasing order of difficulty with a "chili" rating acting as a guide. Take triangle questions again as an example. The first question in that bucket is a 1-chili question, meaning it's easy. It lets the student get her feet under her. Then the questions get increasingly difficult until the student is tackling 3-chili questions, proving they're ready for higher-level questions on the GMAT as well. It's a great way to build confidence while escalating your advanced understanding of each question type. Finally, most GMAT textbooks provide answer explanations that are very traditional in nature. But as I teach in my course, the way you were taught to do something in your high school algebra class isn't always the most efficient way to solve questions on the GMAT. I like how Brandon often provides a secondary answer explanation that takes this into account and gives students alternative ways of solving the same question.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this book is a complete stand-alone in terms of preparing for the GMAT on your own. While there's written instruction on the different topics tested on the GMAT (e.g. how to analyze arguments, how to tackle reading comprehension passages, how to think through data sufficiency questions, etc.), it's not as detailed or thorough as the do-it-yourselfer out there might be looking for (which is why I use it as a complement to the instruction I provide in my course, not a replacement for it) -- especially if you're trying to learn the GMAT from ground zero. But as a source of practice problems to get you ready for test day, there's nothing better out there -- and every prospective GMAT test taker should have this book in his/her library!

About the Author
Dr. William A. McEachern began teaching large sections of economic principles shortly after joining the University of Connecticut. Several years later he began offering teaching workshops around the country. The University of Connecticut Alumni Association conferred on him its Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000. He earlier won the Association's award for Distinguished Public Service. Dr. McEachern has published books and monographs on public finance, public policy, and industrial organization, including MANAGERIAL CONTROL AND PERFORMANCE (D.C. Heath and Company). His research has also appeared in edited volumes, such as READINGS IN PUBLIC CHOICE ECONOMICS (University of Michigan Press), INTERNATIONAL HANDBOOK ON TEACHING AND LEARNING ECONOMICS (Edward Elgar Publishing), and RETHINKING ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES (Irwin Publishing), He has also published in a variety of refereed journals, including Economic Inquiry, National Tax Journal, Quarterly Review of Economic and Business, Journal of Industrial Economics, Kyklos, Econ Journal Watch, and Public Choice. His principles of economics textbooks have been translated into Spanish, Chinese, and Bahasa Indonesia, and have been adapted for Australia and for India. Good book & timely on GOP candidate

I bought this book to read on flight home, and really enjoyed it. Easy to read.
Interesting to read during all the media coverage right now. Saw Trump on 2 news shows yesterday.
Anyway, the book does a good job of covering the major components from Trump’s campaign: immigration, foreign policy, economy, crime, etc.
Author uses a lot of quotes from Trump speeches and press conferences; doesn’t try to influence with regards to other GOP candidates.
Interesting to read the stats of how perception of U.S. has changed in eyes of Americans over past few decades. Good reminder of how the U.S. president impacts countries and their citizens all around the world.
Enjoyed the book.

Good, Quick Read to Gain Some Insight Into the Donald but Falls a Little Short of Getting Inside His Head

Target Audience/Genre: This nonfiction analysis is targeted to people wanting to get inside the head of, arguably, the most unique candidate ever to enter the race for President of the United States of America.

What was the Amazon Rank on the date this review was published? 131,866.

Is this a book that I can read without having to read others first? Yes.

Are there a lot of typos/misspellings, grammatical errors or other editing failures? No.

Is this a fast, easy read or is it more of a leisure read? Incredibly fast, easy to read.

What sort of language does this writer use to amplify the points made? Plain English.

My biggest pleasure or disappointment? Not sure. It is well written and well edited, but, even though it is 27 pages, it really doesn’t get deep into the topic. More of just a surface treatment. Mind you, it does a fairly good job explaining Trump’s philosophy and displaying where his political statements seem to differ from his principles. I think it just doesn’t go deeply as it should.

The United States must lead not only because it alone can help the international community overcome its collective-action dilemmas, but because it is most likely to be hurt by inaction. Bottom Line:

I tend to disagree with the concluding statement by the author at location 295. I do believe we elect deal makers as president. That is probably the single most valuable trait of a President.

As to whether Donald Trump is the right deal maker to elect, well, it will be the decision by the American people. In that sense, I think, in balance, the author of this booklet did accomplish its mission. Four stars out of five. Had it gone somewhat deeper to actually get inside the man’s head, this would have been a great book.

Oh, I should mention, the list price of $2.99 is a bit steep for a 27 pages article. That’s why I read this using my Kindle Unlimited account. KU Rocks.

A good read

The author presents an interest concept of his own family "discovering" America. The story gets a bit thin as he does not go into depth with the most important proofs, while he spends much more time creating a history of the Grail and the Templars. For the real story of Antonio and Nicolo Zeno story and the 1398 expedition there are better books to read. Sinclair somehow decided the Doge of Venice and the family Zeno should not have an "O" after their name. Once making this error - he sticks to it despite the fact that no one else has ever spelled it as ZEN. Leading this reader to wonder if a fact checker might have helped.

The Truth About America's Origins

It's no big surprise that what we learn in public schools & history books is full of lies, deceipt and falsehood. This is a great book that will Illuminate the authentic origins of the U.S.A and the real Spiritual Doctrines upon which christianity has tried for the last 1000 years or more, to hide from us. So, if you want the Real Deal, I highly recommend this reading for any serious seeker of hidden truth kept from the general population for too long.

Another load of hooey

Uncritical, inaccurate, unreferenced and incredible - and that, believe me, is a flattering review compared with what I might have said. A combination of fantastic ignorance - of language, of literature and of history - combined with deliberate distortion makes for an acute attack of mental indigestion.

Buy it, read it, have a good laugh, donate it to Oxfam. That way it will at least do somebody some good, even if you end up in the funny farm, probably in the padded cell next door to the author's.

Boris Pasternak (1890-1960), who won the 1958 Nobel Prize for Dr. Zhivago, has a reputation for being something of a "holy fool," a descendant of the mad Russian wanderers who spoke prophetic truth to tsars when others were silenced. Fleishman, a long-time Pasternak scholar, has written a dense intellectual biography of this "holy fool" that assumes prior knowledge of Russian history and the basic facts of Pasternak's life and career from childhood in a cultured Jewish family and formation as a poet in the heady atmosphere of Russian modernism through revolution, Stalinist terror, and postwar repression. For the reader with this background, Fleishman creates a coherent portrait of Pasternak as a man of moral courage and political sensitivity who consciously accepted the risks of choosing to speak his truth in the face of tyranny.

Must read to understand the artist in an oppressive regime

This extremely detailed book chronicles Pasternak 's pre -revolutiinary childhood, his genius that could have taken him into many careers and finally his passion for poetry that entertwined him with the 20th century's most notable politicians and revolutionaries. He kept himself ouf of the political fray with his brilliant wordsmithing, the innuendos of which wers not immediately obvious. Hard to put down. Bravo Mr. Fleischman.
